Your home is your castle - and you ought to be proud of everything about it! When it comes to redecorating and remodeling, it can be difficult to decide how best to showcase certain rooms and make them stand out. Here are some simple, inexpensive strategies to make sure no one goes past a room without looking!
The wall color you choose is extremely important and will set the tone for the overall look and feel. You have to take into account the size of the room; if it is on the smaller side, then choose lighter colors. Light colors will give the illusion of a bigger room. If the room is already spacious, then you can experiment more with medium and darker colors. For example, a spacious bedroom or study will often look great in a hunter green or burgundy. Consider too, how dark the room may look once daylight wanes. Kitchens typically do well with lighter colors like yellow, peach or beige. Bathrooms are traditionally blue, green or yellow. You'll have to think about your own style here - are you more traditional or contemporary? Do you want to go a bit wild or stay with the status quo? There is no right or wrong answer; it's simply a matter of personal taste and style.
Any room can have a theme to it, but typically themes are relegated to children's bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms. There are a myriad of choices so do some research and soul-searching before you make your final decision. Do you want your bathroom to have a nautical theme? Perhaps a tropical one would be more suitable? How about a deep blue ocean theme? Kitchens look great in themes of fruit, flowers, country, or birds. The possibilities are endless it seems. Your child's bedroom can be decorated into almost any cartoon character they like, or perhaps a sports theme would suit them better. Once you have chosen a theme for a particular room, it's easier to choose everything else.
Be careful not to put too much furniture in a room, or it will look cramped and small. That is certainly not your intention. You want to create a spacious-looking room, no matter what size it is. The furniture should complement the color you've chosen for the wall, as well as the overall theme if you have one. An orange chair may not be the best choice for a room with red walls, for instance. Ideally, all the room's furniture should match each other, but depending on your budget, this may not always be possible. At the very least, all of the colors should complement each other, not clash together.
This is where you can really have some fun and let loose! Pillows, curtains, bedding, area rugs, shower curtains and many other accessories can be purchased to add to the look of your room. Wallpaper, borders, murals and wallies can be purchased to complete your room's theme. There are a number of choices and you're only limited by your imagination. So have some fun and redecorate to your heart's content!
